Cholesterol Test, Do You Need One ?

Cholesterol is actually a natural sterol that is essential for the proper functioning of the body. It is produced in the liver and is a structural constituent of several cell membranes. It even aids body to absorb essential vitamins. The only problem takes place when the level of cholesterol exceeds the certain limit. Therefore, it is very much important to keep a proper check of it. You can easily determine the cholesterol level through a cholesterol test. Furthermore, these tests are easily available for use at residence. Remember, approximately around 80% of the body’s cholesterol is formed by the liver.

The remaining 20% is being observed through the diet. The dietary cholesterol comes largely from fish, poultry, dairy products and meat. The organ meats like liker are particularly high in the cholesterol content whereas foods of plant source contain zero cholesterol. Immediately after the meal, the body absorbs the dietary cholesterol and stores it in the liver. The liver plays an important role in regulating the level of cholesterol in the blood flowing through the circulatory system. Importantly, it can produce cholesterol if it is required by the body.

Experts say that personal diet routine is the main reason behind the rising cholesterol level. It is the main cause of obstacle of the arteries and heart disease. Nearly all individuals who go through high cholesterol repeatedly have a diet comprising of mainly diary produce and animal products which are high in fat. The two major types of cholesterol are HDL and LDL. LDL cholesterol is prominent as bad cholesterol. It is because advanced level of this cholesterol is linked with a raised risk of heart disease. It results in the formation of a hard thick matter called cholesterol plague in the artery wall.

After a point of time it causes tightening of the arteries and thickening of artery walls. The complete procedure is eminent as arthroscleroses. The imbalance in the LDL and HDL cholesterol level results in various risk factors. Low levels of LDL and high level of HDL ratio (low LDL/HDL ratios) are considered desirable. Total cholesterol is the summation of IDL, VLDL, HDL, and LDL.  LDL (intermediate density) and VLDL (low density), plays a major role in the determination of the cholesterol level.

Anyone above the age of 40years may face this problem therefore, it s vital to go through the test every few years. This test is basically a part of lipid profile. It measures the makeup and number of lipids in the blood which flows through the circulatory system. To a large extent low density lipoprotein (LDL) is taken into consideration for determining the level. It is because LDL is considered as bad cholesterol. It clogs the arteries by gathering together on the walls of arteries.
