Smoking Statistics From all Around The World

If there is nothing enough to motivate you to quit smoking, then take a look at the following smoking statistics that have been taken from around the globe:

  • Smoking causes one in five Americans to die every year.
  • Second hand smoking causes more than 50,000 people to die in the USA.
  • Around 445 new lung cancer cases are registered daily in the USA.
  • America has more deaths from tobacco than the total deaths caused due to homicides, accidents, AIDS, drugs and fire accidents.
  • A person gets killed due to tobacco every 8 seconds.
  • More British people died due to tobacco, than in the World War II, around 12 times.
  • Half of all chain smokers are killed due to tobacco.
  • Five minutes of life is shortened due to every cigarette smoked.

Imagine you having to explain to your family about not being around for them, because you don’t have enough strength to stop smoking! Now, that should be sure shot motivation for you to quit smoking.

Some more hazards of tobacco are specified as follows:

  • There are more than 4000 cancer producing substances in tobacco smoke.
  • A lot of ailments and untimely deaths are caused due to the habit of smoking. These deaths can be prevented if you stop smoking.
  • Smoking causes so many illness like heart diseases, lung diseases, cancers and affects different body parts like pancreas, kidneys, liver, lungs etc.
  • Around 6300 non-smokers die because of second hand smoking every year.
  • Among stroke deaths and heart diseases, 14% are caused due to smoking.

But these points are reasons to rejoice:

  • After quitting smoking, the risk of heart diseases and strokes starts decreasing.
  • After a year of giving up smoking, the chances of death due to heart related diseases are reduced to almost half.
  • After 15 years of giving up smoking, the chances that you would succumb to lung cancer become equivalent to a non-smoker.

These smoking statistics clearly show that smoking is a weakening disease. Also, smoking makes you hugely addictive to it, so much that it affects the nerves and the brain. Tobacco addiction is harmful both neurologically and physically.

Though these statistics provide compelling reasons to quit smoking, they are not the ultimate reasons to quit smoking. People ultimately quit smoking for family and near and dear ones. They also quit smoking to improve their quality of life.
