Four Annoying  Quit Smoking Side Effects

The side effects smokers have to face when they quit smoking is an issue of concern to some people. But these quit smoking side effects are so negligible that they can be easily overlooked when you think about all the positive effects it has on your health and general well being.

At every New Year, I usually take a resolution to give up smoking and enter into the New Year as a non-smoker. The most hopeful of them was the one I took during the year 2005. But, my efforts this time also were not sincere enough and I always found an excuse to hang on to smoking. It was like I could never do it.  The only thing I do sincerely was my announcement to quit smoking. But my action never justified my words.

The main reason why my resolutions failed one after another was that I always justified myself somehow in this regard. I believed that I was never unsuccessful in getting rid of cigarettes when the fact was that I always create a reason for not trying. I kept on telling myself I can quit smoking just as I had managed to do well in most things I had tried. But the truth was that living without smoking simply scared me.

The good news is that eventually I won the battle and did quit smoking. Now it’s been five or six years since I have stopped smoking. What I want to tell you is about a few excuses smokers often find out to justify themselves clinging to this habit.

You'll develop a bad cough

It's true that immediately after you stop smoking you will get a bit of a cough. Actually this cough is caused because the body is getting a chance to force out the toxins from your body and more oxygen is passed through your lungs. This quit smoking side effect is a sign that you could breathe again freely and should be the most welcomed cough.

You'll struggle with stressful situations

This was an excuse I often resort to when I don’t want to try any more to quit smoking. This quit smoking side effect completely false as in reality it is found that cigarettes make a stressful situation worse. Generally, if you are a smoker, you will need a cigarette just before or after a tense situation like a weekly meeting. I often wondered what will happen to me if I didn’t smoke at that time. They seemed so unavoidable. But the truth is that cigarettes makes an edgy situation worse as when you are not smoking you are in the nicotine withdrawal state and it keeps you crave more and more for the cigarettes. This is exactly why you keep on smoking.

You'll get fatter

This quit smoking side effect happens only if you give up smoking with wrong approaches like substituting cigarettes with sweets, nicotine patches, and drinks. If this is the case, then you will certainly become fatter. But if you quit smoking with the correct methods it is never true and there is no reason for you to put on more weight

You'll be really grumpy

This quit smoking side effect also applies to people who adopt wrong methods to give up smoking. You need to be mentally tough if you want to quit smoking. Your body will recover from the mild physical addictive behavior of nicotine fast but mentally this may irritate you to a certain extent. If you choose the right methods and have a positive attitude quitting smoking will be something you enjoy.

It is my dream to live in a world free of smokers. Major part of my youth was spent trying to quit smoking and dreading even trying to quit. But eventually I found something that really worked for me and I was saved from the dreadful habit. So in my opinion, the only quit smoking side effect is that you will feel in better health, be happier and live a long and healthy life
