Dangers Of Smoking When You are Pregnant

A woman should consider giving up smoking when she is pregnant. By this way, she would have well-being and a lot of energy to get safely through the pregnancy period. Also, her health would not be affected by some common dangers of smoking like cancer, heart attacks and lung diseases.

In case you smoke during pregnancy, an underweight baby would be formed and this can lead to complications and premature death due to various diseases. Hence, you are urged to quit smoking at least for your yet-to-be-born baby.

Think of a way to stop:

You must decide whether you want to give up smoking step-by-step or suddenly. Whatever stance you choose, make sure that the last day you smoke is not far away from the present day. Also, make yourself busy throughout the day so that you do not remember smoking.

If smoking keeps your hands busy, choose many activities to ensure that your hands are kept busy. For instance, try playing with pencils, pens, stitch buttons, cooking, writing letters, etc. and all other things that make you forget smoking.

If smoking keeps you de-stressed and relaxed, try a number of things like walking around, listening to music, massaging or having sex.

If smoking keeps you happy, find happiness in other activities. If you are habituated, go to places where smoking is banned and meet up with friends who do not smoke. Try to think of various things you can do to keep you away from smoking.

Even then if you feel like smoking, take deep breathes and try to inhale and exhale taking short pauses in between. By not smoking, you are contributing towards your child’s good health. If you are hell-bent to quit smoking, you will definitely do it!!

Secondly, there are many dangers of smoking that you should know about smoking.

If you smoke, the child inside you is also affected. When you inhale smoke vapor, poisonous gases like carbon monoxide and nicotine are transmitted to the baby. The placenta, that links you with the baby, transfers nutrients to the baby and emits waste matter. Smoking when you are pregnant can lead to toxins getting transmitted through the placenta which can lead to underweight, premature birth and death in rare cases. Passive smoking is also harmful for your baby. Other problems like common colds, lung diseases, learning delay and physical deformation can also occur.

In case you want to use smoking cessation products, consult first with your doctor and follow his advice.
